What if Mental Health Awareness Was Successful – Chaos?

Funding stigma is the issue!

Mind You

By Marvin Ross

Mental health awareness week/month/whatever is designed, in part, to reduce the stigma towards what is called mental health issues and problems – a politically correct phrase. One commenter on my last post that was skeptical of mental health awareness pointed out that stigma prevents people from seeking treatment. “If more individuals with mental differences (a politically correct phrase if ever I’ve heard one) seek help, they will be less likely to commit crimes, or end up homeless.”

Let’s say that’s true. All those people who were afraid of stigma actually began to seek help. Where would they find it?

They won’t because It is not there!

As I pointed out in my blog on Mental Health Awareness, the Mood Disorder Society of Canada found that 91% of people who were seeking help in Canada wanted to have greater access to professionals. Over one third had to wait…

Super Delegates Will Write History by Nominating Sanders in Philadelphia

Still Sanders

Political Reads

Edited by Samantha Best

The brainchild of the 1968 Democratic Convention may finally show its brilliance in 2016, when the unbound Democratic superdelegates upend pledged delegates and popular vote and choose their party’s nominee, thus holding the final firewall they were originated for.

Superdelegates were never intended to have a majority status. In reality, they only make up about 15% of the delegates available. And more often than not, their opinion isn’t relevant to the nomination. However, the purpose of the minority power is not to elect a candidate. Rather, they were designed to prevent a loss in a general election, a proverbial safety valve to circumvent an obviously weak candidate.

This is the superdelegate’s role in the Democratic nomination process: they are independent judges that only emerge in marginal contests. Their function is to secure a nomination based upon available data and a completed primary map. Their sole task…

What did Claypool recommend to principals?

I thought Claypool was trying to empty a dry glass!

Apples 2 Apples in Chicago Public Schools

Part 1 about the meetings held with principals regarding budget cuts is here.

Claypool and the CPS Central Office staff held meetings with selected principals and not all principals. This is not unusual when the District is trying to vet potentially bad news with schools, principals, teachers and parents. They gather the equivalent of a focus group together to test out how they are communicating the bad news, get feedback, get ideas, etc. So if you’re wondering why some principals were given information and some weren’t, that explains why.

It was interesting to hear some of the ideas that Claypool and his staff “floated” with attendee principals, especially his idea of schools needing to “fill the glass.”

Let me explain what I was told that this means.

Claypool is under the assumption/impression that classes are not as full as they could be, nor are schools making the most of every…

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY: How and Why CPS Removed Me from My School

Power concedes ....

After the mayor’s office had me removed from my school I wrote, “The corruption behind CPS’s actions that day was readily apparent. I intend to write about it soon.”
Well, here it is.
Take a deep breath. You’re in for one hell of a ride.

On Wednesday, April 20th I received a letter informing me that I’d been reassigned “to home” and that CPS would seek to suspend me without pay.  Several days later, I was given the charges CPS used to justify their actions.  I plan on addressing those charges in the very near future. The first step, however, is to understand how CPS attempted to remove me.  That requires an understanding of the events in the two months prior to my reassignment.

One of my favorite films is a martial arts epic entitled, Hero.  The film stars Jet Li as a nameless warrior who carries out a meticulous plan…
